The Foxes took the top spot in the Premier League after winning 2-0 at home against Chelsea. Wilfred Ndidi in the 6th minute and James Maddison in the 41st minute brought success to their team, which was third in a row and again showed that the players of Brendan Rodgers will be an important factor in the battle for the top 4, and even for the title. For Chelsea starting eleven Edward Mendy was under the frame and in defense of Reece James, Antonio Rüdiger, Thiago Silva and Ben Chillwell. Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz were the three in the middle of the field, while Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham were leading the attack.
Leicester opened the scoring with their first chance. In the 6th minute Harvey Barnes failed to make a shot, but the ball ended up in Ndidi, who with a nice shot from the edge of the penalty area scored with the help of the crossbar for 0-1.
In the 15th minute the result could have been doubled. Maddison fired a screamer that bounced off the crossbar. The first opportunity for Chelsea was in the 20th minute. Reece James shot from a tight angle and Schmeichel had to save. In the ensuing corner, Thiago Silva also bothered the Dane with a header, but he intervened successfully again.
The Londoners created another goal opportunity in the 33rd minute, when they organized a fast attack, which ended with a shot by Hudson-Odoy, but inaccurate. Only a minute later, events moved to the other side, where Vardy was brought out alone against the goalkeeper, tried to past him, but Mandy intervened in cold blood and saved.
In the 38th minute VAR had a decisive role. The referee initially awarded Evans a penalty for tripping over Pulisic, but after examining the situation, it was seen that the offense was outside the penalty area and a free kick was given instead of a penalty. Mount executed the free kick, but it was extremely inaccurate.
Instead of Chelsea equalizing, in the 41st minute Leicester doubled their lead. The ball was sent into the penalty area with a long pass, Vardy failed to play with it, but it reached Maddison, who elegantly directed it into the goal for 0-2.
The Foxes could have scored a third goal at the beginning of the second half. In the 50th minute Albrighton crossed for Justin in the penalty area and he put a nice header, but the ball went inches from the crossbar. Chelsea could have returned one goal in the 86th minute, but Timo Werner’s goal was disallowed due to an offside.
With this victory, Leicester have 38 points and is at the top of the table, one point more than Manchester United, which will play with Fulham tomorrow. Chelsea remains in 8th place with 29 points.
