Chelsea move past Morecambe with ease

Chelsea achieved a well-deserved and largely calm victory at home against Morecambe with 4-0 in a match of the third round of the FA Cup. Goals were scored by Mount (18) and Werner (44) in the first and Hudson-Odoi (49) and Kai Havertz (85) in the second half.

The League 2 team once again failed to overcome this step in the tournament, which has never done in the 100-year history of the club.

Surprisingly, the first chance in the match came for the guests in the 12th , when in an attempt to cross from the right by Jordan Slew. The ball flew surprisingly to the empty side of Kepa Arrizabalaga side, but the keeper took a step back and nailed the ball to the goal-line. It was also the Spaniard’s number 100 match with the Blues shirt, which he managed to mark with a clean sheet.

In the 18th minute Chelsea took the lead after a goal by Mason Mount. Hudson-Odoi received on the left flank, then passed to his teammate, and Mount, who was a few meters in front of the arc of the penalty area, sent the ball to the right corner of the visitors’ goalkeeper.

In the 44th minute, the Londoners managed to double their lead. Hakim Ziyech perfectly ran from the right, crossed to Kai Havertz and the former Leverkusen player header back to where his teammate Timo Werner was. It was no problem for Werner to score from a few meters.

The second half started in the same way as the first ended. In the 49th minute Ziyech sent a wonderful pass behind the defense of The Shrimps, where the running Callum Hudson-Odoi mastered perfectly and scored undisturbed.

The fourth goal fell late in the 85th minute, when Cesar Azpilicueta advanced on the right flank, and Havertz wedged between the two central defenders and scored with a header, which was the last interesting situation in the match.

Manager Lampard picked a lot of his stars against the League Two team wanting to build momentum with a good result. Been under pressure for the last month an explicit 4-0 win is coming in the right time. Next game for Chelsea in Premier League is against Fulham away on Friday. Positive result is a must as The Blues are five places behind top four and with three loses in last five games.
